List of Vice Presidents of India (1952-Till Now)
- Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (life time as 5 September 1888 – 17 April 1975) was an Indian philosopher and statesman who was the first Vice President of India. He served to the country as an Indian president from 1952–1962. He also became second president of India who had served the country from 1962 to 1967. Radhakrishnan was honored with numerous high awards during his life, including a knighthood in 1931, the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, in 1954.
- Zakir Husain
Zakir Husain became the second Vice President of India. He served to the country as an Indian Vice president from 13th of May 1962 to 12th of May 1967. Zakir Husain was also co-founder of Jamia Milia Islamia, serving as its Vice Chancellor from 1928. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest national honour, in 1963.

- Varahagiri Venkata Giri
Varahagiri Venkata Giri became the third vice president of India. He served the country as an Indian president from 13th of May 1967 to 3rd of May 1969. Having served as Governor of the states of Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Mysore between 1957 and 1967, he was elected Vice President of India in 1967. Giri also served as Acting President of India from 3 May 1969 to 20 July 1969
- Gopal Swarup Pathak
Gopal Swarup Pathak (24 February 1896 – 4 October 1982) was the fourth Vice President of India from August 1969 to August 1974. Gopal Swarup Pathak is honored with “Proud Past Alumni” in the list of 42 members, from “Allahabad University Alumni Association”, NCR, Ghaziabad (Greater Noida).
- Basappa Danappa Jatti
Basappa Danappa Jatti (10 September 1913 – 7 June 2002) was the fifth Vice-President of India, serving from 1974 to 1979. He was Acting President of India from 11 February 1977 to 25 July 1977. He was hailed as a man who set an example of selfless service and stood for value-based politics. He was once called an ordinary man with extraordinary thought, and he named his autobiography, I’m My Own Model.
- Mohammad Hidayatullah
Mohammad Hidayatullah (17 December 1905 – 18 September 1992) was the sixth Vice-President of India, serving from 31 August 1979 to 30 August 1984. He had also served as the Acting President of India from 20 July 1969 to 24 August 1969 and from 6 October 1982 to 31 October 1982. Hidayatullah was a scholar in Hindi, English, Urdu, Persian and French.

- Ramaswamy Venkataraman
Ramaswamy Venkataraman became the 7th Vice-President of India and served the country from 31 August 1984 to 24 July 1987. Ramaswamy Venkataraman was an Indian lawyer, Indian independence activist and politician who served as a Union minister and as the eighth President of India.
- Shankar Dayal Sharma
Shankar Dayal Sharma (19 August 1918 – 26 December 1999) was the eight Vice President of India from 3 September 1987 to 24 July 1992, serving under R. Venkataraman. Sharma had been the President of India, serving from 1992 to 1997. The International Bar Association presented Sharma with the ‘Living Legends of Law Award of Recognition’ for his outstanding contribution to the legal profession internationally and for commitment to the rule of law.
- Kocheril Raman Narayanan
Kocheril Raman Narayanan was the 9th Vice President of India, elected from 21 August 1992 to 24 July 1997. Kocheril Raman Narayanan was also the tenth President of India. Narayanan is regarded as an independent and assertive President who set several precedents and enlarged scope of highest constitutional office.
- Krishan Kant
Krishan Kant (28 February 1927 – 27 July 2002) was the tenth Vice President of India from 1997 until his death. Previously, he was Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 1990 to 1997. He was elected vice-president by Parliament as the joint candidate of the Indian National Congress and United Front. He died in New Delhi aged 75 after suffering from a massive heart attack on 27 July 2002.

- Bhairon Singh Shekhawat
Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (23 October 1923 – 15 May 2010) was the 11th Vice-President of India. He served in that position from August 2002, when he was elected to a five-year term by the Electoral College following the death of Krishan Kant, until he resigned on July 21, 2007. He served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan three times, from 1977 to 1980, 1990 to 1992 and 1993 to 1998.
- Mohammad Hamid Ansari
Mohammad Hamid Ansari is the 12th and current Vice President of India, in office since 2007. Ansari is the only person to get re-elected for the post of Vice President of India after Dr. Radhakrishnan. He was elected as Vice President of India on 10 August 2007 and took office on 11 August 2007. He was re-elected on 7 August 2012 and was sworn-in by Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India.
- Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu
The 13th Vice president of India is Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu who is basically from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was born in on July 1, 1949 in Nellore district and well known Indian politician as he has been interested in politics since childhood. Naidu is a student leader and a vociferous orator in VR College Nellore, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in politics and diplomatic studies.
