Structure of UPPSC PCS Exam

Before jumping to the UPPSC Syllabus, let us first understand the structure of the UPPSC PCS Examination. The UP PCS Exam is conducted in three stages:

  • Prelims: 2 Papers ( Objective )
  • Mains: 8 papers (essay/ descriptive type)
  • Interview

UP PCS Prelims Exam Pattern

The detailed UP PCS Exam Pattern 2023 for Preliminary Examination is given in the table below:

Negative Marking

UP PCS Mains Exam Pattern

There are two major changes in the UPPSC PCS Main Exam Pattern:

  • UPPSC re-introduced the descriptive type papers as in the past but with an increase in the number of papers.
  • UPPSC introduced the ‘Ethics’ paper as a part of the UP PCS Main exam.

There will be three sections in the question paper of Essay, Candidates will have to select one topic from each section and they are required to write an essay in 700 words on each topic. In the three sections, topics of essay will be based on following sphere:

UP PCS Syllabus 2023 – Interview:

Those applicants who will qualify the Pre and Main Exam may appear for a Personal Interview. The interview would be 100 marks in place of 200. Thus, the total marks for UPPSC PCS Exam 2023 would be 1,500 in place of 1,600.
