In 2018, National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2018 has been conducted on May 7, 2018 at 2,225 centers across the country by Central Board of Secondary Education. This year, total 13, 26,725 students have registered for exam, out of which 5, 80,648 were boys and 7, 46,076 were girls.

Passing percentage of boys and girls in NEET exam is almost equal. Out of 5, 53,849 boys who had appeared for exam 3, 12,399 have qualified and out 7, 16,072 girls who had appeared for exam only 4, 02,162 have qualified the exam. There are only 14 girls in top 50 NEET Rank and Kalpana Kumari from Bihar is the topper among all.

Kalpana Kumari Success Story

Kalpana Kumari who is belonging Bihar state has topped the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test NEET 2018 with AIR 1 by securing 99.99 percentile with 691 marks of 720. She has obtained 171 out of 180 in physics, 160 out of 180 in Chemistry, 360 out of 360 in Biology (Biology and Zoology).

Besides NEET 2018, she has also topped the Class 12 board exams, by securing 434 out of 500 marks. During interview she said “I am really happy that I have top the entrance test for my dream career of becoming a doctor”

Kalpana says “I didn’t face any problem in exam and now I want to take admission in best medical college for MBBS in cardiology”.

She said “I have for 12-13 hours daily and previous year papers and mock test really helped me out for better preparation.”

Kalpana’s father Rakesh Kumar Mishra, says “she is the youngest among our three children. All of them have done well. But Kalpana has turned out to be really special”

Question: Congratulations NEET 2018 Topper for securing AIR 1 in NEET 2018 and also topping the Bihar state board exam. How do you feel

Kalpana: Thank you! Along with you guys even I got stunned as it is unexpected for me. However I thought that I will be in top 5 but I never expected to secure AIR 1. After two days of NEET result, I got to know that I have also topped Bihar board Class 12 exam, which makes me very happyIt is an amazing feeling for me.

Question: Tell us something about yourself and your background?

Kalpana: My birth place is Bihar. My father is lecturer at Mahatma Budha Teachers Training College, Sitamarhi and mother is also teacher in my home district. Brother is studying at IIT, Guwahati and my sister studied at NIT. My parents and siblings always supportive to me and give proper guidance to achieve my goals.

Question: What motivated you to pursue medicine as a career?

Kalpana: It is my childhood dream, since I was a child I wanted to become a doctor. As per the current situation lots of people cannot afford medical treatment so to serve the society I  motivated to become a doctor

Question: Which other medical entrances have you appeared for?

Kalpana: Yes, I appeared for AIIMS and JIPMER out of both JIPMER was okay but I don’t think AIIMS went well as paper was very lengthy.

Question: How did you prepare for NEET 2018 and balanced the studies for board’s exam and other medical entrances with NEET?

Kalpana: For NEET preparation, I prefer Aakash coaching center and studies from Aakash study material /notes. I was living in Bihar but whenever I had a doubt, I used to consulted with teachers at Aakash. I never faced a problem in balancing my studies I studied 12-13 hours a day at least which will help me in overcoming failures.

Question: Which according to you was the toughest and easiest section?

Kalpana: Exam overall was moderate I won’t say tough but Physics sees me lengthy so I give more time to this section especially Chemistry was quite easier on the other hand Biology also was okay but you need to give equal time to this section as well since it carries 360 marks.

Question: Any college you have in mind for admission?

Kalpana: My dream institution is AIIMS, New Delhi but with NEET, I would like to join Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.

Question: Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

Kalpana: I will choose MS in Cardiology as my future career.

Question: Any message or advice for future medical aspirants?

Kalpana: Work hard, practice a lot and refer best study material and guidance.
