CBI Establishment and Foundation

The Bureau of Investigation was set up in 1941 by the Government of India which was at that time named as Special Police Establishment. Its headquarters was in Lahore which was then shifted to Pakistan by the superintendent of the SPE Khan Qurban.

D.P. Kohli was the founding director of the CBI, who was holding the office from 01-04-1963 to 31-03-1968. From 1955 to 1963 he was the Inspector General of police for SPE. Now CBI is headed by an IPS officer with the rank of Direct General of Police.

CBI Roles and Responsibilities:

Central Bureau of Investigation is a Union Subject and can work on the following cases:

• Offences against central-government employees, or concerning affairs of the central government and employees of central public-sector undertakings and public-sector banks
• Cases involving the financial interests of the central government
• Breaches of central laws enforceable by the Government of India
• Major fraud or embezzlement; multi-state organized crime
• Multi-agency or international cases

सीबी आई राष्ट्रीय खुफिया एजेंसी है जो भारत सरकार के तहत काम करती है। यह एक विशेष पुलिस विभाग है जो किसी भी मामले की जांच पर काम करता है। सीबी आई का काम राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा से संबंधित हर तरह के मुद्दों की जांच करना है। यह कार्मिक और प्रशिक्षण विभाग के तहत अपना काम करता है। फेडरल ब्यूरो ऑफ इन्वेस्टिगेशन (एफबीआई) और सीबीआई का काम लगभग वही है।
