UGC stands for University Grant Commission. UGC is a legal association of India set up by Union government in the year 1956. Tamil Nadu, with near thirty seven universities, covering above four thousand colleges in the states including about five hundred engineering colleges, eleven hundred fifty college of arts, and around two thousand five hundred schools produce the highest no. of engineering graduates every year in comparison to all the other states in India. This results in attracting most of the software and other companies in this part of India.
The only thing that should be noted cautiously is whether the institution of higher education is UGC approved or whether that particular college in which a student wants to take admission is affiliated to AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education. The colleges may reassure the parents and the students about their affiliation to AICTE.
