KPSC Syllabus of Superintendent Grade-I

UNIT-I

Concepts of Social Work, Social Work, Social Service, Social policy , social development, professional and voluntary social work, social concept and philosophy, Ethical responsibility in social work and sociology. Functions of Social change and Social Process and Meaning.

UNIT-II

Type of community, rural, urban and tribal, social and contextual understanding of practice. Skills in community organisation and practice, utilisation of resources within and outside the community, marginalised sections in urban, rural and tribal community and society.

B Important social problems — Unc 7 -floyment amongst women, illeteracy, poverty, children in conflict with law, crime amongst women and children, trafficking and corruption, Socio-economic empowerment of women, Women Studies, cybercrime, devadasi system, prevention of alcoholism and substance drug abuse.

UNIT III

Casework method: as a social work practice and overall purpose and objectives of working with induviduals, groups. Remedial, preventive, promotive, developmental and indegenious case work practice, Cultural and sensitivity in practice, specific techniques in social work practice. Concets of convergence, community development approach.

Group Work process, group formation, formulation of objectives and programme planning in implementation — group process communication in group work and measures of group effectiveness, rules of group working , personality development — stages of group development and community development approach.

UNI I IV

Special categories of children — Deprived and children in conflict with law, destitute children, differently abled children, specially expllited and oppressed children, street children, child labour, child in prostitution, child bondages, child beggars, school drop-outs, children in broken homes, child victims of abuse, behavioral problems in children accoi,,ing to Juvenile justice act.

Family life education concept, need, prnciples, techniques, value education programmes, inter-disciplinary approach in family life education, social work intervention in families principles, approach, techniques, pre -marital counscelling and family therapy.

National Health policies, Mental Health Act — 1987, Equal oppurtunities for differently abled persons Act — 1995, PNDT Act — 1998, National and international organisations for working for women and children, crime against Women, Criminology and correctional administration and rehabilitation and after care servies.

Children all Acts and Rules related to women and Children.

UNIT-V

NUTRITION:

Classification functions and sources of energy, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, fat and water soluble vitamins, minerals, titer and balanced diet.

UNIT-VI

Malnutrition:

Malnutrition in women and children, Eriology and strategies for precention and correction, Identification of High risk patients, prophylactic measures for Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, M, Iron, Calcium and Iodine.

UNIT-VIIMaternal and child malnutrition, impact on growth, pregnancy outcome, reproductive health, Infant mortality rate, Maternal Mortality rate.
UNIT-VIII

Nutrition Life cycle, Stages, Womb to Tomb, de. , .:iopmental milestones and norms.

Infancy — Growth and development, breast feeding, weaning food, complementary food, portable water, immunisation.

Preschool years — Groth and development, cause of malnutrition at preschool ages, common childhood illness measures to overcome enivironment issues.

School years — Mid-day meals, cyclic menu.

Adolescence — Growth and development, physical, phisiological and social changes, menstrual cycle —care and hygiene, chronic energy, deficiency among adolescent girls, counscelling, skill development.

Adult — Weight management, over and under nutrition, dietary factors in prevention of chronic degenerative deceases.

G. Geriatric Healthcare- Physiological, psychological and social changes, impact on quality life, institutional care. Life skills, development and management at various stages.

UNIT-IX

Counscelling — Definition, importance, elements, characteristics, goals, counscelling relationship, counscelli in different settings — family, school, nutritional relief and rehabilitation, information education and communication (IEC) — Approach, nutrition intervention programmes, de-addition centres, correctional settings, HIV/AIDS, counscelling, marriage counscelling, welfare of unwedded mother.

B. Family care, institutiional care, Non-institutional care — theory and practice, Human resource development management, communication, project formulation, management and evaluation

UNIT- XFamily Life cycle — Marriage, marital adjustment and problems. Family disorganisation, atrocities on women and children. Laws and protection, Divorce and remarriage. Empowerment of Women, Social support system.
UNIT-XIEarly childhood care and education (ECCE) — Impotartance, needs and scope of ECCE, concept of IMR, Types of Preschool, ECCE identification of early childhood disabilites and intervention, organisotion of pre-school centres- administrative, set-up building and equipment staff records and reports, programme planning, play and its importance.
UNIT-XIIInnovative programmes for teaching and learning for functionaries at various levels in urban and rural areas, Development of anti-visual aids.
UNIT-XIIIII Child Welfare and Health education programmes. Government, Non Government organisations for women and children in India, Central Social Welfare Board, Integrated Child Development Scheme, FPAL Hygiene and sanitisation for health.
