National Talent Search Examination is organized in two stages. Stage 1 is conducted by the State board and Stage 2 is conducted at national level. Candidate who clears the NTSE Stage 1 exam is shortlisted for the stage-2 exam.

NTSE Stage 1 Exam Pattern

National Talent Search Stage 1 Examination is organized at state level. In NTSE Stage 1 Exam, candidates have to choose one language from English or Hindi. STAGE 1 has two sections Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). There is no negative marking in this stage. For every correct answer, one mark will be awarded.

Part 1 – Mental Ability test (MAT): This section is prepared to check the reasoning, ability to think, evaluate, ability to discriminate and visualize of the candidates. Total 100 questions have to be answered in 2 hrs. Question asked in this section are based on analytical and logical reasoning.

Part 2 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): In this section, question will be based on Science, Mathematics, and Social Science and English Language subjects. Total Questions that will be asked in this

NTSE Stage 2 Exam Pattern

Candidates, who clear the Stage 1 exam, will be eligible to appear in the NTSE Stage 2. National Talent Search Stage 2 Examination is conducted on National level. Like in stage 1, paper is divided into two parts – MAT and SAT. There will be 100 questions in both MAT and SAT. Time allotted to each section is 2 hr. or 120 minutes. There will be no negative marking.

Candidates, who qualify in both stages separately is considered for merit. Selection of candidates is based on the total marks scored in MAT and SAT based on merit.

NTSE Syllabus 2019

National Council of Educational Research has designed and prescribed the Syllabus for NTSE 2019 Stage 1 and Stage 2 exam. NTSE syllabus is based on the class X syllabus prescribed by the NCERT. In the MAT Section, questions are asked from the variety of topics like series, pattern perception, analogies, coding-decoding, classifications, hidden figures and problem-solving etc. In SAT section, questions from Science, Social Science and Mathematics are asked.
