Government of Punjab has decided to replace the Atta-Dal scheme with Smart Ration Card Scheme. The Punjab government is going to start a Smart Ration Card Scheme from June 2018 onwards with the motive to reduce diversion, leakage and pilferage.

Through this scheme selected peoples will take the benefit of Ration Card are being linked to Aadhaar card. Smart Ration Card Scheme has started In Punjab For PDS From June Onwards, will be the Aadhaar-enabled public distribution system to minimize diversion, leakage and pilferage.

Smart Ration Card Scheme Started In June 2018:

Punjab food and civil supplies minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu launched Smart Ration Card Scheme to bring clearness in the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), said on Monday. There are a total of 35.26 lakh families comprising nearly 1.37crore individuals covered under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS).

Now, state government has decided that distribution of wheat to eligible beneficiaries will be started through Electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) devices. Through Smart Ration Card Scheme of Punjab, peoples will get full grains as the quantities prepared by the Government of India unit (Broadcast Engineering Consultant India Ltd).

Smart Ration Card Scheme under NFSA:

  • of beneficiaries 1.42 Crore
  • Eldest Woman will be the family head.
  • Wheat will be given at Rs. 2/- per KG.
  • The Biannual entitlement of wheat will be given at one go.
  • The distribution will be done at the doorstep of the beneficiary directly by the department.
  • The beneficiary gets to keep the wheat bags in which he gets the grains.
  • The beneficiaries are de-duplicated on the basis Aaadhar.
  • The beneficiary can go to the consumer court, if he does not get wheat as per his entitlement.
  • Wheat will be delivered in 30 kg standard packing.
  • The department officials, Beneficiary, Transporter, Gram Panchayat, Nigrani Committee – all will work in coordination for disbursement of wheat.
  • No upper cap. Every member gets five kg wheat per month.

Key features of the Smart Ration Card Scheme:

Providing food grains to poor and needy

The state authority of Punjab has executed this food welfare scheme known as Smart Ration Card Scheme for making low cost food grains, mainly atta and dal, to people who are poor and needy.

Sending grains directly to homes

As per Smart Ration Card Scheme, the state authority will make arrangements to send the grains directly to the homes top the selected people. Each beneficiary will not have to worry to go to the ration shop to get their food grains.

Grains at low rates

Selected peoples through Smart Ration Card Scheme will get food grains at low process. The state will give subsidy on the price of these food grains.

Amount of pulses to be distributes

Each smart card holding household will be entitled to get 2.5 kg pulses, as per Smart Ration Card Scheme.

Cost of wheat under the scheme

Under Smart Ration Card Scheme, each selected people will have to pay only Rs 2 for every kilogram of wheat they purchase.

Part of Food Security Act

The development of this Smart Ration Card Scheme was done in line with the National Food Security Act of 2013. With the purpose was to ensure that poorest of the poor have access to food grains.
